The best Google review reply software for a small business

Six real options, $0 to $399/mo — including the one where you don't buy anything. We make one of these tools, so read us with that in mind; every price below is the vendor's own published number, and every "skip it if" is real.

Pricing checked July 21, 2026, from each vendor's public pricing page. List prices, before add-ons and usage fees.

First, the job

What review software actually has to do

Strip the marketing and there are four jobs. Most tools do one or two well and gesture at the rest:

  • Draft replies that sound like you — not "Thank you for your valuable feedback!" A reply your regulars would believe you typed.
  • Keep you in control — a bad auto-reply to a 1-star review does more damage than no reply at all.
  • Clear the backlog — the 40 unanswered reviews from the last three years matter as much as tomorrow's.
  • Get you more reviews — asking every customer, the honest way (no gating, no cherry-picking — Google and the FTC both prohibit it).

How to choose

Three questions settle it

1. Is the job "reviews" or "everything"?

If your Google posts, photos, and directory listings all need work and you want one vendor for the lot, buy a suite (Merchynt) or a platform (Podium, Birdeye) and pay suite prices. If the pain is specifically the reviews section — unanswered reviews, a stale rating, no new ones coming in — buy the tool that does exactly that and keep the difference.

2. Who's reading the replies before they post?

Anything that posts under your business name deserves your eyes. Look for approval-first workflows with optional automation for the safe cases (5-star thank-yous). Full autopilot on negative reviews is how businesses end up in screenshots.

3. What's your real monthly number?

List price is the start. Podium's $399 is per plan with usage add-ons; Birdeye's $299 is per location on annual billing; Merchynt's $99 is per business with add-ons on top. RaveReply is $24 flat for one shop ($19/location on Crew if you run several). Whatever you pick, get the all-in number in writing first.

Straight answers

The questions buyers actually ask

Is it OK with Google to use AI for replies?

Yes. Google's rules govern the content — no fake reviews, no incentives, no abuse — not the tool that drafted it. The reply is truthful and you stand behind it; that's why approval-first beats autopilot.

Should replies be fully automated?

Auto-send the 5-star thank-yous if you like — low risk, real time saved. The 1- and 2-stars are where a wrong reply does damage; those deserve a human tap. Drafts for everything, approval for anything that stings.

What should this cost?

For a single small business whose problem is reviews: $24–$75/mo buys the job done. North of $100/mo you're buying a suite; north of $300 a platform. Pay those prices only if you'll use those products.
